Program Modes

There are three different operating modes in TrayHeart. When creating a new file, the user selects one of them:

Single Design

Liquid and gas (defined by their volume / mass flows, load range, density, viscosity and surface tension) are brought into contact at a so called "stage". In this case, the contact is made either on cross-flow trays (with different elements such as valves, bubble caps, sieve holes, etc.), in random or structured packings This hardware is called TrayHeart as a design. There is a maximum of 2 pairs of streams and 1 design.

Profile

A stream profile for a column is normally calculated by a thermodynamic calculation program (like inhouse simulators or AspenTech, HISYS, PetroSIM, ...). These data can be imported into TrayHeart. For each entry of the stream profile, the evaluation is performed as in the Single Design Mode (see above). Different designs can be assigned. The interaction of stages is taken into account. The results are output for the single stage or for the profile (e.g., as a pressure loss or flood diagram). This makes it possible to compile a column in detail (incl. nozzle position, manholes, special installations) and to compare it with actual values from the process control system.

Die tower can be shown as 2D and 3D-sketch. All nozzles (for feeds, draws and measurements) can be shown, too.

Validation

In order to validate model relationships data can be imported and statistically evaluated. The user can thereby check the suitability of models. Each measurement data point is evaluated as in the Single Design Mode and is compared with the measured data. The results are displayed in detail for each data set as well as parity plot for the whole data collection.
